Young people who commit serious crimes should be punished in the same way as adults. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

When young people commit serious crimes, society faces a painful dilemma. Victims deserve justice, and the public must be protected. Yet young offenders are not simply smaller versions of adults; their judgment, emotional control, and moral understanding are still developing. For this reason, I do not agree that juveniles should always be punished in exactly the same way as adults, although serious crimes must still receive serious consequences.
