News is one of the main ways ordinary citizens learn about events beyond their direct experience, yet public trust in journalists has weakened in many societies. I believe we should neither trust journalists blindly nor reject them cynically, and the most important journalistic qualities are accuracy, independence, courage, fairness, and public responsibility.
