Some students take a year off from the studying between finishing high school and the university in order to travel or to work. Do you think the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

The movement from high school to university is often rushed, even though many students are still uncertain about their interests, finances and readiness for independent study. I believe taking a year off to work or travel can bring more advantages than disadvantages, provided the time is planned with clear learning goals rather than treated as a long holiday.
