Digital media now allows people to watch foreign streets in real time, listen to international debates and study distant cultures without leaving home. I agree that television and the Internet provide valuable information, but they cannot fully replace travelling abroad because physical presence creates forms of understanding that mediated knowledge rarely achieves.
