Health care and education are two pillars of a stable and humane society, yet there is continuing debate over whether governments should fund them. Some argue that individuals should take responsibility for these services themselves, while others believe they are basic public goods. In my view, governments should play the leading role in financing health care and education, although private providers can still have a supplementary function.
