The rise of computers and mobile phones has changed how young people read, write, and communicate. Some observers worry that constant messaging, short videos, and informal online language have damaged traditional literacy skills. I partly agree with this concern, but I would argue that the effect is not entirely negative. Digital communication weakens certain forms of reading and writing while developing others.
