Some people think that studying history is a waste of time and money. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In education systems increasingly judged by employment outcomes, history is sometimes dismissed because it does not always lead directly to a technical skill or professional licence. I strongly disagree with this view because history develops civic judgement, causal reasoning and cultural awareness, although it must be taught analytically rather than as rote memorisation.
