Government spending always involves difficult choices because public resources are limited while social needs are almost endless. Healthcare is often regarded as a moral priority, since illness can destroy a person’s quality of life regardless of their income or talent. However, others argue that education, infrastructure, national security, and economic development may sometimes deserve equal or greater attention. In my view, healthcare should be one of the highest priorities, but it should not automatically consume public spending at the expense of every other essential sector.
