Some people believe if a police force carries guns, it will encourage the level of violence in the society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Arming the police changes the relationship between state authority and public safety, especially in societies where trust in law enforcement is fragile. I partly agree that police guns can raise the level of violence, because they may escalate encounters, but in some contexts armed units are necessary to respond to serious threats.
