As cities struggle with congestion, air pollution, and declining public space, vehicle-free days have become an increasingly attractive policy experiment. By temporarily banning private cars, trucks, and motorcycles from central areas, governments hope to encourage cleaner transport and change public habits. Although such measures can inconvenience residents and businesses, I believe the advantages generally outweigh the disadvantages if the policy is well planned.
