Online shopping is replacing shopping in stores. Is it a positive or negative development?

Online shopping has moved from convenience to habit, changing retail employment, consumer behaviour, and the character of town centres. I see this as a mixed but broadly positive development, provided societies address its effects on workers, local businesses, and packaging waste.
