More people are interested in cosmetic surgery in order to improve their appearance. Why? Is it a positive or negative development?

The growing interest in cosmetic surgery reflects a culture in which appearance is increasingly linked to confidence, employment, romance and social media visibility. This trend is driven by technological availability and beauty pressure, and I believe it is largely negative when it turns normal human features into medical problems, although individual choice should not be dismissed entirely.
