Many cities replace farmlands and parks with houses. Is it a positive or negative development?

As urban populations grow and housing prices rise, cities often treat farmland and parks as empty land waiting to be converted into residential space. This is mostly a negative development because new housing is necessary, but replacing green and productive land damages food security, public health and long-term urban resilience.
