Governments are elected primarily to serve their own citizens, and it is understandable that many people expect national problems to take priority over global ones. However, the claim that governments should only focus on domestic needs is too narrow in an interconnected world. I believe states have a primary duty to their own populations, but they also have moral and practical reasons to assist people beyond their borders.
