In some countries, some criminal trails in law courts are shown on television so that the general public can watch them. Advantage outweigh disadvantage?

Televising criminal trials is often defended as a way to make justice visible, yet courts are not ordinary public entertainment and the lives of defendants, victims and witnesses may be permanently affected by exposure. I believe broadcasting trials can bring some democratic benefits, but the disadvantages outweigh them unless coverage is tightly limited to cases of exceptional public interest.
